Full Time Pastor of Youth Ministries


Location: Birch Hills, Saskatchewan

GENERAL ACCOUNTABILITY:

  • The Pastor of Youth Ministries reports to the Lead Pastor of Lake Park Baptist Church.. 

  • The Pastor of Youth Ministries is responsible for:

  1.  the development, coordination, delivery and evaluation of ministry programs as it relates to youth ministries within Lake Park Baptist Church’s purpose, mission, values and vision and

  2.  the planning, direction and supervision of youth ministry services to youth ages 12 - 17 in the Lake Park Baptist Church.  In particular, this position is responsible for coordinating, recruiting leaders, educating, supervision and delivery of individual and group programming.  This can be done in consultation with the Lead Pastor and Ministry Team.

  3.  the development, delivery and evaluation of Discovery classes as they pertain to youth

  4.  Counseling; outreach and community networking as it related to the work with youth ministries.

DIMENSIONS:

The scope of the position is centralized in Birch Hills; however the region extends east to Melfort, south to Yellow Creek, west to St. Louis and north to Prince Albert.  The church borders Muskoday First Nations.

  3. Is sensitive to the Holy Spirit’s leading in his calling as a pastor to Lake Park Baptist Church.

  5. Will hold true to the BGC “Affirmation of Faith” and “Pastoral Code of Ethics”.

 

ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE:

The Pastor of Youth Ministries is one of three positions reporting to the Lead Pastor of Lake Park.  The others are as follows: the Director of Children’s Ministries, Administrative Secretary.

In addition, the pastor of youth ministries will work with many volunteer personnel in a variety of circumstances.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  •  Calling of God to ministry with youth and a personal relationship with Jesus Christ

  • The incumbent must have completed a Bible School education and be tracking towards ordination with the Baptist General Conference.  One to three years of experience in a ministry position in a local church would be an asset.

  • Minimum of two years experience delivery in youth related programming

  •  Experience in program development and facilitation

  • Relevant additional education: experience related to ministry to diverse age groups;  experience related to first aid and CPR (C) (not required but would be beneficial)

  • Valid drivers licence and access to a vehicle

SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Management of youth programming in line with current trends and best practice standards.  This includes program design, development, delivery and evaluation.

  • Create working teams to review, design, coordinate and evaluate community outreach programs as it pertains to youth and youth families.

  • Recruitment, orientation and evaluation of personnel in consultation with the Lead Pastor.

  • Ensures adherence to operational procedures and personnel policies.

  • Assistance in the formation and maintenance of interdenominational partnerships and working groups to enhance capacity in youth programming.  This will support Lake Park Baptist Church’s initiatives in outreach and discipleship of the body.

  • Attendance at provincial conferences / meetings relating to youth programming.

  • Collaboration and support to the work of the Pastoral Team for Lake Park Baptist Church.  The incumbent may be required to serve as a member of other ministry teams as deemed necessary.

  • As part of the pastoral team, the incumbent shall identify the need for volunteer staff development and training and in consultation assists in the development of the strategic plan for youth programming in addressing identified needs.

  • As part of the team, the incumbent shall participate in the budget review annually and monitor adherence to the budget in identified program areas.

  • Maintenance of program records and reports as required.

  • Provision of counseling services as it relates to youth, grief and general well being.

  • Delivery of worship services as it relates to Sunday morning, weddings and special events when asked by Lead Pastor.

  • Assistance in the formation and maintenance of interdenominational partnerships, and working groups to enhance capacity of ministry opportunities for Lake Park.  This will support Lake Park Baptist Church’s initiatives in outreach and discipleship of the body.  This may include but not be limited to community networking such as: community wide youth events, inter-community services, interdenominational ministerial committee, outreach to youth parents.

  • In consultation with the pastoral team, development and monitoring of performance indicators relating to the youth programming.  Indicators may be established by quality improvement teams, and the board’s policies.

  • The incumbent may participate on a worship team


WORKING CONDITIONS:

The Pastor of Youth Ministries functions in collaboration with the Pastoral Team members largely within the walls of Lake Park Baptist Church; however the position is designed to ensure that services are delivered across a large geographic area.  The work is very comprehensive and diverse in nature, evident by the large number of youth involved in a variety of programming on an annual basis.  The position relies on collaboration and cooperation which is essential when working in this multidisciplinary team.  Some travel is required within the region.

Conditions may also include deadline pressures imposed by the board, multiple demands, dealing with a variety of sensitive, confidential situations involving grief and emotional needs of people from diverse backgrounds.
